Automotive Technology

The aim of this program is to provide trainees with a thorough understanding of the methods of servicing and repairing automotive vehicles. Trainees are taught to use the proper factory-approved methods of servicing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles. Training includes learning to make proper diagnosis using test equipment, hand tools, special equipment, precision measuring tools, and service manuals and specifications.

Automotive Technology

Barbering

The barbering program provides students with the necessary skills needed to pass the Tennessee Board of Cosmetology and Barber’s practical and written examinations. Students who are interested in pursuing a career in barbering, will receive instruction in personal and shop safety rules and state regulations, sanitation and sterilization standards, and the proper use of equipment and implements commonly found in a barbershop.

Building Construction Technology

The Building Construction Technology Program provides the student with the fundamentals of carpentry, residential electrical wiring, residential plumbing, and block and brick laying. Instruction methods include classroom lecture, audio-visuals and extensive live work projects on actual construction projects. To develop skills, attitudes and proper working habits that will enable the student to make an intelligent entry into the building construction technology field.

Computer Aided Design Technology

The Computer-Aided Design Technology program teaches individuals the correct procedures, skills and attitudes necessary to become successfully employed in today’s modern technological field of Computer-Aided Design (CAD). CAD Drafters and Technicians prepare technical drawings and plans used by production and construction workers to build manufactured products.

Computer Information Technology

The Computer Information Technology program is designed to provide students with first-hand knowledge of commonly used software, hardware, and operations of personal computers, servers, networking, and security operations used in today’s highly technical business and industry.

Cosmetology

Personal beauty service is recognized as a necessity by most people today, and performance of this service can be satisfactory rendered only by operators who possess the skills and knowledge of the trade and who are adept at social courtesies. A state license is required for the practice of beauty culture, and a formal examination must be passed before this license can be obtained.

Dental Assisting

Dental Assisting is a valuable health service that provides direct care to dental patients. The mission of the Dental Assisting Program is to guide selected individuals through an educational experience to become personally, professionally, and socially effective dental assistants. The course includes lecture, laboratory and clinical practice.

Digital Graphic Design

The Digital Graphic Design program is designed to meet the growing need for layout professionals who excel in typography, color theory, print and webpage layout, digital illustration, photography and image editing. You will use state-of-the-art software (Adobe Creative Cloud) to create digital illustrations, photo-realistic images, and multi-page documents. This course will prepare you to present portfolios and other multimedia presentations.

Electrical And Plumbing Construction

Heating, Air Conditioning, And Refrigeration

Classroom and shop learning experiences include theory, application, and service of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Included are print reading, basic electronics, pneumatics, math, programmable controllers, refrigerant containment certification (EPA certification), and heat pump technology. Upon completion, students are prepared to enter jobs as service technicians in a variety of domestic, industrial, and commercial settings.

Industrial Electrical Maintenance/Mechatronics

The mission of the Industrial Electrical Maintenance / Mechatronics program is to provide diversified maintenance training to students to meet the occupational needs of prospective employers in our community.This course will provide a thorough understanding of the methods of diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial equipment. Each unit of study is approached by starting with the basic theory involved.

Machine Tool Technology

The Machine Tool Technology program is designed to provide the student with the ability to work as a machine tool operator, machinist, tool and die maker, industrial maintenance machinist and related occupations. At the completion of the diploma in Machine Tool Technology, graduates will be able to set-up and operate manual machining equipment such as, band saws, drill presses, lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and tool and cutter grinders.

Mechatronics Multicraft Technology

The Mechatronics technician ensures all components of a manufacturing operation that includes mechanics, electronics, control engineering and computing are all working properly. Mechatronics may alternately be called electromechanical systems or control and automation engineering/ technician.

Off-Road Diesel Technology

The Off-Road Diesel Tech program provides practical experience in the repair and maintenance of engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, clutch and transmissions, hydraulics, hydrostatic transmissions, drivelines and axles, frame and suspension systems, steering systems, brake systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Students receive instruction in diagnosing trouble, system analysis, disassembly, replacing defective parts, reassembling, etc.

Patient Care Technology/Medical Assisting

The Patient Care Technology/Medical Assisting program at Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Dickson provides students with a thorough understanding of basic nursing care and prepares them to provide direct bedside care in a variety of healthcare settings. Patient Care Technicians and Medical Assistants provide basic patient care under the supervision or direction of a Physician, Advanced Practice Nurse, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Pharmacy Technology

This one-year program will prepare students to work as pharmacy technicians in wholesale or retail pharmacies, long-term care facilities, hospitals or other healthcare settings. Program instruction includes pharmacy math, pharmacology, top drugs, law and ethics, third-party reimbursement, certification preparation and clinical training. Pharmacy technicians prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist.

Practical Nursing

The Practical Nursing program at Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Dickson prepares students to become contributing members of the healthcare team. The course includes classroom lecture, laboratory, and clinical practice. Students study Nursing Fundamentals and related subjects such as Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Pharmacology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Mental Health.

Pre-Practical Nursing (De Only)

Truck Driving

The Truck Driving Program prepares individuals to build skills in safety practices, operation, vehicle maintenance, and non-vehicle activities associated with commercial vehicle driving. The program is structured to emulate the normal day to day accountabilities of an over the road commercial vehicle driver. The Class A CDL is the primary area of emphasis.

Welding Technology

Welding Technology (daytime) students will learn various basic and advanced welding/pipefitting techniques that are common in the industries: Shielded Metal, Gas Metal, Gas Tungsten and Flux Cored Arc Welding, cutting techniques, grinding, metal preparation, symbols and blueprint reading, metallurgy, layout, fabrication, pipe/valves/fitting installation, power tools, and measurement techniques.
