Child Care and Development

The Child Care and Development program offers training in child care and development for daycare teachers, aides, and others pursuing careers as daycare or nursery school teachers, Head Start professionals, and more. This program features courses available on demand during evening hours to accommodate employed individuals. It enables childcare workers to fulfill the minimum requirements of Alabama Head Start and Child Care Standards.

Child Development Associate - CDA Credential

The Child Development Associate Short Certificate prepares a student to enter the field of childcare as an assistant teacher in a classroom. It meets the educational component requirements for students who want to obtain a Child Development Associate credential (CDA). To sit for the national credentialing exam with the Council for Professional Recognition, students must complete 420 hours of approved training in a childcare facility in addition to the courses listed.

Commercial and Industrial Wiring

The Commercial and Industrial Wiring certificate program equips students with the technical skills and knowledge required to install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems in commercial and industrial environments. This digital photography certificate program is designed for job seekers and for professional development for those already employed. Credit earned may be applied towards the Associate of Applied Science degree in Visual Communications Multimedia option

Electrical Equipment Installation and Repair (Semiconductor) This program introduces fundamental concepts and applications in Robotics, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Circuit Fabrication. It encompasses basic conceptual design and primary applications, emphasizing safety, associated terminology, and the integration of essential electrical control systems for robotic and PLC movement.

Electrical Technology Option

The Industrial Electricity/Electronics Technology Program is designed to help students acquire the skills required to become an industrial electrician or an electronic technician. These technicians are involved in all phases of commercial and industrial repair and installation. Students will receive training in industrial electronics, solid-state and digital fundamentals, programmable logic control, and communications.

General Education

The general education short-term certificate program is designed to help students who want to build an academic foundation and earn credit toward their associate of arts or science degree or those intending to transfer to a senior institution before completing their degree requirements. Additionally, this certificate will benefit students seeking general knowledge prior to entering the workforce.

Industrial Instrumentation

The Industrial Instrumentation certificate program provides students with the foundational knowledge and technical skills required to work with instrumentation and process control systems in industrial settings. The program covers essential topics such as motor controls, industrial electronics, and both DC and AC electrical fundamentals.

Kinesiology-Exercise Science

The Short Certificate in Kinesiology-Exercise Science is designed for individuals seeking foundational knowledge and skills in the field of exercise science. This program provides a concise yet comprehensive introduction to the principles of kinesiology, preparing students for entry-level positions in fitness and wellness or further studies in related fields.

Medical Assisting

The Medical Assisting short certificate requires students to complete thirty (30) semester hours, of which twenty-nine (29) are in medical assisting coursework. This program prepares students for careers in the healthcare field by offering courses in both the clinical and administrative functions of a physician’s office. Before completing the medical assisting short certificate, students must complete two hundred twenty-five (225) hours of practicum in a medical setting.

Medical Assisting: EKG Technician Option

The College offers a four (4) credit hour EKG Technician program that prepares students to perform critical tasks such as administering EKGs, Holter monitoring, and stress testing. The program provides an overview of cardiovascular electrophysiology and its role in healthcare delivery. Topics covered include cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, electrophysiology, interpretation of rhythm strips, and diagnostic electrocardiography.

Medical Assisting: Electronic Health Records Specialist

The Medical Assisting - Electronic Health Records Specialist short certificate requires students to complete thirteen (13) hours of medical assisting coursework. This program is designed for individuals seeking employment in various physicians’ offices and healthcare organizations.

Medical Assisting: Medical Administrative Assistant Option

The Medical Assisting - Medical Administrative Assistant short certificate requires students to complete sixteen (16) semester hours of medical assisting coursework. This program is designed for individuals seeking employment in various physician’s offices, hospitals, or medical facilities, particularly in the production of documents that form the basis for medical records.

Medical Assisting: Phlebotomy

The Medical Assisting - Phlebotomy short certificate requires students to complete fourteen (14) semester hours, of which thirteen (13) are in medical assisting coursework. This program prepares students for work in acute care settings, such as major hospital laboratories, minor emergency centers, and free-standing laboratories, under the supervision of medical laboratory technologists or laboratory managers. The courses provide both classroom and clinical experiences.

Medical Assisting Program

The Medical Assisting program is designed to prepare students to perform both administrative and clinical tasks that assist physicians in various areas of medical practice. The responsibilities of medical assistants can range from administrative functions to clinical care and patient treatment. Students will learn to take and record medical histories and vital signs, administer medications, sterilize instruments, assist with minor office procedures, and manage patient emergencies.

Medical Laboratory Technician

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program at Chattahoochee Valley Community College prepares students to acquire the entry-level competencies required for performing routine clinical laboratory tests in areas such as clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology, urinalysis, body fluids, and laboratory operations. The analysis level varies from waived testing to highly complex testing, covering all major areas of the clinical laboratory.

Nursing (ADN) - Direct Entry Option

The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing will be conferred upon the student who successfully completes the 5-semester curriculum, comprising sixty-six (66) credit hours, which include twenty-seven (27) credit hours of general education and thirty-nine (39) credit hours of nursing core coursework

Nursing (ADN) - Mobility Option

The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing-Mobility program enables Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Licensed Paramedics to complete a three-semester curriculum that leads to an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree. Upon successfully completing one of the two nursing mobility curriculum tracks, students will be qualified to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).

Nursing Assistant: Home Health Aide

The Nursing Assistant/Home Aide program is an eleven (11) semester hour certificate program designed to provide students with the necessary theoretical and laboratory experiences to develop the skills required to qualify as long- term care Nursing Assistants/Home Health Aides.

Nursing Assistant Program

The Nursing Assistant program lasts one semester and requires the successful completion of NAS 100: Long-Term Care Nursing Assistant, a four (4) credit hour classroom and clinical course that meets the requirements of the seventy-five (75) hour Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) for training long-term care nursing assistants. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) provide basic patient care under the direction of licensed nursing staff.

Pharmacy Technology

The Pharmacy Technology program offers a blended format of instruction that prepares students for careers in various pharmacy settings, including hospitals, retail pharmacies, home infusion pharmacies, and other relevant healthcare environments. Students will acquire expertise in medical dispensing, medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, medication interactions, and much more.

Practical Nursing

A practical nursing certificate will be awarded to the student who successfully completes the 3-semester curriculum, which consists of forty-five (45) credit hours, including twenty (20) credit hours of general education and twenty-five (25) credit hours of nursing core coursework. Stackable credentials include a nursing assistant certificate of completion and/or a practical nursing certificate.

Visual Communications: Multimedia Graphic Design Option

The visual communications program prepares students for careers in graphic design across print media, multimedia, and various applications of commercial art. The multimedia option focuses on the creative and technical processes involved in print media production—such as publishing and advertising—and multimedia production for the World Wide Web, along with other internet, presentation, and digital multimedia applications.

Wellness and Personal Trainer

The Certificate in Wellness and Personal Trainer program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in the health and fitness industry.
