Examination of the history, literature, and theory of the theatre from prehistory to the present with an emphasis on the human body as a broad category for understanding a variety of issues and topics relevant to contemporary theatre practice. Areas of exploration include such topics as historical and theoretical perceptions of the social status of the actor, the actor's body as a medium of representation, and theatrical representations of gender and ethnicity.
